07/07/2011, 22:59 EST

Believe it or not it is currently approximately 19:59 local time, 3 hours behind EST because our area does not do daylight savings.  We plan on taking full advantage of this by waking up at 4:30 local time to go see the sunset over the Grand Canyon.  We are currently at Jacob Lake, on the North rim of the Canyon.  Tomorrow we will try to get the full Canyon experience and then return here for the night.  The mourning after that we will either do a few quick things here and then move on, wake up early and drive to Hoover Dam, or go to Zion or Brice parks.  While we were driving here we saw tons of fantastic scenery and I shot a lot of pictures (most of them with bushes or guard rails in the way).  On our way here, however, we stopped at Glen Canyon Dam, which was somewhat interesting and very large.

In addition to the dam, it was extremely windy on the bridge we stopped at, as this picture of my brother being blown away demonstrates.

Another strange sight we saw was pouring rain in the middle of the desert.  That was one thing I was not expecting to see in the Arizona desert.

In addition to this, after we got here I looked around our cabin and found a Steller’s Jay in the top of a pine tree, which is a new bird for me.  I also saw a new variation of a Dark-eyed Junco that doesn’t live in PA, but is classified as the same species as the ones we have at home, despite their stark differences in appearance.  Praise God that none of us have contracted my sisters illness and she seems to be getting better rapidly.  Hopefully we are past the danger stage, but who knows.  Keep praying.  We hope to be able to hike as a family tomorrow, but we’ll have to see how my sister feels then.  Unfortunately I won’t be able to blog this for a while because our cabin doesn’t have internet.
